    Need diameter of .410 Brass

    Good morning
Bought a caliber 40-63 Ballard #5 and will need to come up with brass. Read several options that have been used to produce brass. All of which end up with OK diameters. So thought about .410 shotgun brass.
So if you have any would you please measure Rim diameter, Rim thickness, Head diameter and case length and manufacturer.
Those 5 will give me all the info needed to decide whether to buy .410 brass or one of the others if my search for some used brass ends on a cold trail.
Thank you ! Mike in ILLinois

If you're just trying to make reasonable cost "shooter" brass then .303 British, .30-40 Krag, or .444 Marlin could be fire formed for use, but all will come up short on length. .405 Winchester could be fire-formed and then shortened to proper chamber length. Again I've had great success with 9.3x74R Norma cases fire-formed at full length for my Pacific Ballard in .30-90 Ballard 3".
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!

    Thank you!

Looks like would the CBC brass would be good for a 44-410 project. Ream out a single shot 444m barrel, and you would have a real 410 slug gun.

BB; I have a 444 Marlin Handi Rifle barrel that would make a great 410, thanks for the idea. I like the 444 as is but I also have a 45-70 barrel so I wouldn't miss the 444 too much. I have shot a few #8 shot loads out of 444 brass but it would be good to have the extra length of a 410 3" chamber. Gp

    gp,

I think that CBC brass will be way short in a 3" 410 chamber.

I do know how to rechamber a 444m to shoot a straight wall cartridge that is approx. 2.85" with a COAL with 265 JFN of 3.2". I named it the 44 bodeen rimmed. Send me a PM if you want to know how I made it. If I talk to much about rifles on this forum I might get banned.
