help! i bought the hornady bullet puller!

and i need collets ...but all i found listed was rifle caliber and no pistol calibers at all.

will this only work with the taller shells and not pistols?...is it a height thing?

i'll sell the die if i can't get collets for it to do pistols!

Hornady collets are sold by diameter. Look at the diameter of the bullets you plan on pulling and order accordingly.

Dia is the key.

I like my RCBS whick is be cal. All are in stock at Sportsman’s warehouse just a few miles down the road! I really like living in a big metro area! Everything I could possibley want/need within a few miles. Moved here from the boonies and living there, I had to almost order milk by mail!

You need collet #9.

I have found over the years that the ogive shape and length, usually make the use of a collet style puller, iffy at best when trying to pull pistol cartridge bullets, regardless of the brand of puller. The straight section that is required for the collet to grab is normally very short to non-existent. I have never been able to use them, the collet pullers, on lead bullets.

Of all the calibers you listed I suspect the only one that might be pulled satisfactorily, would be the 22TCM and if the bullets are anything like the ones I use in my TCM, it will still be nip-n-tuck if it works.

Unless you have a HUGE amount to pull, I suspect you would be better served with an inertia style puller.

If you're casting, just use a pliers and throw the little bugger back in the melting pot.

I had that puller and it worked ok on some jackets, not well at all on cast. Vise Grips for cast.

Collet bullet pullers are lousy for pulling pistol bullets.
Use an Inertia bullet PULLER if you want to save the bullets. If you have an extended shell holder, stick the case up thru the top of the die opening, then vice grips. Unless you really need to save those bullets.

I use it with ball style bullets with no issue ,wont work with swc style bullets

I use the Hornady for anything with enough straight area to get the collet on. Most cast won't work with the Hornady. That's why I also use an inertia puller. If that fails, I have a pair of pliers.

Not every job uses or needs the same tool. Adjustable wrenches are not the only tool in my box.

one thing for a fact....you don't lose any powder with the collet puller set up.

Bullets that have their ogive curve almost down to the case mouth (ex. 45acp hard ball) don’t work with collect style puller. The bullet must have some straight shank area for the collet fingers to grip. Hammer type inertia pullers work with all type bullets their just slower and noisy.
