Ruger Precision Rifle in 6 mm Creedmoor--suggestions?

well--i was going to buy a new press, and ended up seeing the owner of a local gun store in the middle of putting a brand new Ruger Precision on the discount rack. ......chambered in 6mm.

My dad was a firm believer in the 243, and that round got me excited about shooting distance. However, in the early eighties, i considered minute of 2 liter bottle at 300 yards to be a good poke. I just witnessed a couple of shooting buddies put 5 shots in one ragged hole with his 6.5 creedmoor. He often shoots it out to 1000 yards with boring efficiency.

I am hoping to turn this 6mm into the same creature. If you have load data, and suggestions for building a load, please let me know.

All advise would be appreciated. I have to wait until Friday to pick it up (God I love layaway). Thanks to everyone in advance.

4350 and the sierra 107 MK is a good place to start.

Hornady 105gr BTHP on top of 42.1gr of H4350 OAL 2.730. 5 shots @300yds.

The 6 and 6.5 CM are fine shooters indeed.

May I suggest that if you wish to really entertain the long distance shooting game, start with really good glass. You’ll save yourself a lot of frustration. As far as bullets, Sierra MK/TMK or Berger. H4350 for powder.

Back in my high power days I shot 243 across the coarse and long range. I used several bullets 107 grn Sierra MK hpbt, 105 berger vld, 115 berger vld, 105 jlk vld, and stark 105 grn fb vld. the best 2 then were the 105 jlk vld and stark 105 vld fb. followed closely by the 115 grn berger. The sierra was good. These were used for 600-1000 yds. 200 and 300 yds I used 87 grn hornadies and 95 grn bergers. I used a 1-7 twist barrel also.

If possible when testing these long heavy for caliber vld bullets, use 300 yds distance or even better test at full distance.
