This is a Lyman Mold, sorry no numbers but it casts 457 and weighs 235g as I cast it (13-15 Bhn)
CW. EDIT;
What was this bullet designed for? Why the strange round tip?

And the question is??
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
- Henry S. Haskins in “Meditations in Wall Street”
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." ...Unknown
Looks like the old Lyman 454-309 Wad cutter. Shoots great out of .45 colt Blackhawk. I have shot 1000's of those cast out of a 2 cavity mold.
Not sure of your question. but that is my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'll chime in with another vote for the 454-309. I have the mold but haven't cast in it in a long time - an excellent boolit in the 45 Colt.
You state it casts at .457. Just curious - how are you measuring it? Micrometer or dial calipers?
So we are waiting . . . what is your question?
Looks like it could use a little more heat.
The only amendment the Democrats support is the 5th.
Sorry guys emergency call had me away couple days.
I was able to see mold and yes looks like it is a 454309
measured right out of water bath .457 as dropped. Using dial calipers.
Question was what was it designed for, Special caliber? Why the lil round nose?

1. You really should use a MICROMETER.
2. If you could find the 125yr old guy who designed the mold, then you could ask him. Otherwise I don't believe you could find out. No one at LYMAN would know, that's for sure.

At that diameter that would be a VERY good candidate for a .455 Webley or .455 Colt ... just sayin' ...
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!
Thanks guys!
I loaded a dummie in 45 Colt last night. When these stabilize, I'll load some up and give them a try!
Still wonder why the lil domed tip... makes me think it was special designed for a particular gun or action or caliber...
