    Mystery ingot

Awhile ago I bought some reloading stuff from a guy that his father past away. His father was into guns and reloading, he kept all the guns but wasn’t interested in the reloading. So anyway in the stuff I got there was 2 ingots labeled EXTRA WIPING SOLDER. I looked around and couldn’t find anything so I’d thought I would ask you guys. I know there is a lot of knowledge here. So if anyone can shed some light on this mystery ingot I’d appreciate it

This should be pure lead. It was used by plumbers to make lead traps for sinks. They would heat the lead and wipe it on a form to create the trap.

[EDIT} - I stand corrected....I was told by my plumber that wipe lead for traps was pure lead. Thanx for the lesson.

It is wiping solder and if you do a site search you will find it discussed in several threads. Post #2 gives you one of the references to help you figure out this "wiping solder" If you need to know the exact contents, melt off a small portion and forward to "BNE" a list member, along with a pound of lead for each sample tested.

Its probably 40-60. I would be tempted to keep it as a conservation piece.
