Options for Adding a HP to Existing mold

I'm interested to know more about machining an existing mold for a hollow point cavity.

What are the options for hollow pointing an existing mold? Can it be done on any mold material (brass, aluminum, iron)? Does it have to be a flat point mold?

Who does this type of work?

    Estimated cost?

Is it cost prohibitive to do this compared to just purchasing a HP mold from some of the vendors on the board?

    Thanks

Options for Adding a HP to Existing mold

When I first got into casting I found this guy on the web who does it (prices listed).

Personally, I opted for just buying new ones that were made to be hollow pointed. You’ll find the prices aren’t that much more when you factor cost of original mold and you don’t have to mess with a vintage mold in the process.

Plus, if you are using a mold guide, I found that molds with posts sticking out he bottom make the process a bit trickier compared to the Cramer pin system like Miha (MP Molds) uses.

I will ditto Eric if you want a really good HP alteration that works. Cost used to be $50 a cavity. I wouldn't even consider doing it on anything but a quality mold.
