    My first Taurus...

I have never owned a Taurus and have never had much use for cheap handguns. But on another forum, someone posted that a dealer online was selling the Taurus G2c 9mm for $199. The OP then made the fatal error of claiming that the new Taurus was every bit as good as a Glock. Hilarity and hyperbole ensued...

I had a need for a compact 9mm as a trainer for new shooters and a loaner. I had planned on maybe the Berretta APX compact, or a S&W M&P compact, or any other number of good quality pistols in the $400-$500 range.

But $200 for a pistol was tempting.

I read some reviews and watched some videos. It did very well. The main complaint was the long trigger travel and somewhat mushy trigger.

I also read that there was a new CEO that took over and is really trying to step up the quality. I guess the horrible and random issues with Taurus handguns has been addressed.

I'll get it in a week or so and put it through it's paces. I still have a bunch of handloads from my failed attempt to use 9mm for GSSF. If it performs with the low-powered stuff I developed, then it should be a keeper.

I can get one locally for $224.00 out the door. It looks better than any Taurus I’ve ever seen. They might be on to something.

Got the same gun from the last gun show for 200 bucks. I love it. My brother had one. Took it to the range. I asked if he ever ran cast through it. He said nope. Well we fed it close to 500 rounds and i never missed a plate. I fell in love. I have shot a few compacts and just never like the handling and sometimes fit. Well this one felt like an extension of me if fit and handled so well. My brothers gun must have had a bit of throat wear because mine has a tight chamber just like my 9mm revolver. Playing with crimp makes them feed right and chamber right. They will still shoot in all my 4 9mm Luger guns so i use my revolver cyclender as a case gauge and no issues in any of my guns. Otherwise if i mess up on the crimp, the slide will fail to go into full battery and i have to pop it with my palm. Might need to run a few hundred Copper jacked bullets through it to wear it down a bit. I have two Taurus: PT809 and the Meliinium G2. I like the triggers. Compared to the triggers on my High Point and the wifes SCCY. The Taurus's have the best triggers.

I've never owned a Taurus . . in fact, I've never handled one. We all know how the "Taurus posts" go on the forums. It's good to hear that they have some new leadership and maybe things will change around for them in both quality (hit and miss) and reputation.

That G2c 9mm is kind of an attractive little fella . . . it will be interesting to see what you think of it when you get it as it sounds like others are liking it. You can't beat the price and if it performs well, that's what counts. Keep us posted please.

It's funny about the Taurus bashing..Unless you shoot competition, I doubt many will ever have an issue and if they do , it is under a lifetime warranty. I don't believe Smith is lifetime but could be wrong. I have and still do own some Taurus wheel guns, have never had a hicup. Side by side to the Smith, they are almost identical, except the price tag. I am not bashing Smith and Wesson, just stating, that some of the under priced guns are not the trash you read about in the gun rags that have the high dollar corporate advertising budget. Until you , yourself, try one, don't knock it. That would sure change all the media hype.

I say this , because of late, I have been ridiculed for buying a lesser grade shotgun. Fit and finish is perfect. So far, the gun has preformed flawlessly, yet I read about the high dollar ones needing repairs .

The vast majority of Taurus complaints i've ever heard or read have been about their semi auto handguns. I have had a Model 66 revolver since 1991 and have put thousands upon thousands of factory 110, 125, and 158gr 357 Mag ammo. When I started reloading I was making some pretty hot ammo for it and it never failed. Now it pretty much shoots 38spl wadcutter loads with the occasional full house self defense ammo thrown in to rotate stock. The wife prefers it to every other gun I own with the exception to the GP-100 Match Champion. She likes the way the Match Champion's grip fits her hand better than the Taurus' Pachmyer grip.

Anyways I hope the new CEO gets something going on their customer service and the QC. They do make some pretty innovative products and are at a price point where almost anyone can afford them.

The Millennium G2 is most likely one of the most underrated guns in the market. Yes there have been other models that have had major problems compounded by terrible CS. So it is unfortunate that reputation and internet chatter has overflowed to the G2. It's the way the world spins. Seriously I have a GMAC truck that is the biggest *** I've ever owned and many others that own this model have experienced the same things yet their reputation hasn't been ruined..

My brother owns a PT111 G2 and a PT908 and I've shot both and both are nice guns. Myself, I own a PT92C and in my mind it's one of the nicest guns I own and I purchased it used for only $250.00.. To me it's as nice and fun to shoot as my metal frame Tanfoglio Witness 45acp.

I've had two Taurus revolvers and would not hesitate to buy another. 20 years ago the 805 and 85 I bought had the nicest triggers of anything that was in the gun shop. The 805 is now carried by my brother in law and the 85 was traded for an SP101. Why an SP101? Cause the gun shop could not get me another 805 and I wanted the magnum (this was in the days before the LCR).

My hands don't fit the current small autos.

I've got a Millennium Pro and it go's bang but I seriously dislike the trigger. I bought it as a present for my daughter when she graduated Basic Training and she didn't like the trigger either so I bought her a Sig.

I've got a Taurus 1911 I bought for under $400 that I consider a bargain. Fantastic gun for the money. I've looked at these pistols that I've seen in various places for under $200 shipped and have seriously been tempted to get one just to test but have not gotten one yet.

Funny how those that have never owned or even handled a Tarus can bash them so! I own 4 different tarus-made weapons and they have all performed perfectly right out of the box. No fitting and fixing as others moan about. I give a thumb’s up to the brand. Of course there can always be out-layers in any brand that do not peform up to spec or user’s over-expectations.

I would not be afraid to buy one of these new dudes at all. I just do not need anymore 9mm ANYTHING!

I got the wheel gun because of I wanted to shoot short 9mm in it ,to use the brass that where too short to shoot in the semi auto. I was looking into to have my BH fit with a cylinder for 9mm , for what I needed to do I just got the Taurus and the one I got it from had it there.I like how it was and all.

I have yet to see a fully functioning firearm made of steel that says "TAURUS" (or "ROSSI") on it, yet they can make one from injection molded plastic??, I'll stick with Ruger's and Uberti's.

I've heard mostly nothing but bad things about Taurus my entire adult life. Then I shot my girlfriend's 709 Slim and it was just as tight and more accurate than my S&W Shield. Trigger was awful, though.

I have heard that the quality is much improved.

People that bash on a product based on 20yr old examples are like those who rode in a `92 Hyundai 30 years ago and think they are still garbage.

Plastic?!?!?!!? My 4 Tarus brand short and long guns have ZERO ZIP NADA plastic anywhere in them! Guess you are looking at the wrong models?

I claim no knwoledge of any Tarus semi pistols. I HATE semi automatics in ANY brand and own very few of them.....in any brand.

I stick with Tarus and recommend it to anyone willing to listen “with an open mind”.

Gee does anyone make a Steel Frame pistol that isn't a revolver? But if you are referring to a metal frame pistol then I guess you haven't seen any PT92'S? But you are right I think you should stick with your Ruger's.

My brother bought a used PT92 in 1988. One day we shot 500 rounds of 1950's Egyptian ball ammo through it for the heck of it. That ammo and pistol went 100% - at several points we had to let the gun cool because it was too hot to touch.
Older members might remember that ammo- hot loaded & corrosive primed.
I've shot dozens of Tauri with only one bad gun- a Slim 9mm that wouldn't even work with fmj. My friend bought it new and sent it back.

To be fair I bought two PT22 Beretta copy Taurus pistols for my twin children. One had a slide flaw that showed up in the first 100 rds but Taurus fixed it free within ten days so no complaint there. It and it's sister go through CCI MiniMags like candy. I had to file both front sights down to correct POI but that's it. My son carries his around the farm in his pants pocket and has killed skunks, racoons, and one feral dog that came in our yard growling. My nephew has a PT1911 that I love to shoot- flawless operation and bells & whistles.
I've never seen a Taurus or Rossi revolver fail.

I own Taurus PT111 G2 Pro and its ok but you get what you pay for. I think for the price its an ok buy but its not on the same level as the rest of the major manufacturers.
It does go bang every time and its accurate but trigger break is so far back that people not familiar with it pull the trigger and then look at me like "what the hell" and I have to tell them to keep pulling it all the way back because break is really far back. Finish is not the same as my Sig /Glock/Ruger/Smith etc. I have stainless steel slide on mine which has developed some surface pitting already. My biggest complaint is that it wont feed any kind of HP at all. I can only run RN (cast or not) profile bullets. Not what I was expecting.
