Wow. Linotype for 50 cents a pound!

Bought 200 pounds of home cast teardrop fishing weights at a garage sale some time back. Smelted them down and cast into small ingots and stacked them up for later. Later came yesterday. I wanted to mix up some 50- 50 alloy for pistol paper punching. Had assumed the old fishing weights were probably COWW but in checking with my hardness tester all samples were coming out 22 BNH. Was I pleased.

I love linotype! I really like looking at the words/letters on it before I throw it in the melt...

Check the tin content. 50 years ago COWW were that hard. They had a lot of arsenic in them too. Even in the open back yard you could smell it everywhere, it gave me headaches every time I smelted. 5 cents a pound was the going rate and you could get them everywhere.

Great find. I got 1200 pounds of monotype for 80¢ per pound and thought that was good.

Nice Score and at a good price! I would probably cut it even more than 50-50.
