    One happy muzzleloader

My CVA Mountain Rifle lit arrived today. Yes...it has a 45 cal. barrel with the only markings on barrel that read "made in USA" So...as I understand it, it is a Douglas barrel with a 1 in 60 twist. Has a four screw patch box. Going to take my time building this rifle kit.Click image for larger version.

WOW man, envy. I haven't put a kit together in a good long time. Been wanting a squirrel rifle kit for a while but them things are pricey... love that "new rifle kit smell"..

My senior year of HS I built a .50 cal version of that same rifle. I had already built the Mountain Pistol in .50 & figured it needed a partner. Sold both a decade later because they had become closet queens and I needed $$$ for something else. Choices...

Every CVA I've bought or put together was first rate- yours will be so as well! I look forward to seeing the result.

In case you didn't know, one inherent problem with the CVA mountain rifles was that the trigger group was inlet too deep. This sometimes prevent it from going to half cock or making it easier to go off accidentally by bumping the butt too hard. An easy fix it to just shim the trigger group out some with thin wood strips or a couple washers under the trigger group.

By the way, nice find. I have a USA in 50 and it has 1/66 twist.

No problem with the trigger. Do have a lock hammer that strikes to the left and short of the nipple. Will try to heat it up and correct that problem

I have had to "adjust" the throw of the hammer a couple times and did not need to heat them up. I removed the hammer and held it in the large vise I have and made the bends. I left the lock mounted to the rifle so I could check the adjustment as I moved the striker end very small amounts. I made a two pronged tool that can grab the striker end to allow the bending. Just make small adjustments and you'll be okay.
