    Got me a pig!

I posted on CL asking for lead at .50c a pound. One of the people that responded said he had a 100 pound bar, something somebody was using as a boat anchor. I went to check it out fearing a lump of metal of unknown content but was pleasantly surprised to find a honest to goodness foundry pig!

Bonus; this foundry seased operations under that name in 1905 when it was bought up by another company, this thing is old and more likely than not pure lead. It is pretty amazing to find it in Alaska as the city of Anchorage didn't even exist back then, there wasn't even a town there.

Currently I have no need for soft lead so I'll just leave it alone for the time being. Eventually I figure I'll rig a support so I can lower it end first into my melting pot.

You can chop it up with a chain saw

When SCUBA diving there's nothing better than finding a lead anchor. Pays for the tank of air.

When I cut my stuff that needs it to fit in the pot, I spread a tarp and cut it with a saws-all.

    Could have been ship/boat ballast.

Get it analyzed. I bought a couple of hundred pounds of stuff like this with the same name on it and it scanned at 95.6 Pb and 4.4% Sb.

I have to cut the foundry pigs in half so they stay in my pot without tipping over the side. Skilsaw with a carbide blade cuts them with about as much effort as cutting a PT 4x4 timber.
