Did I get a good deal?

Bought two 5 gallon buckets of wheel weights each just over half full both for $25 total.

Smelted down I ended up with 92 pounds of clip on ingots and 22 pounds of stick on ingots. 114 pounds total.

Also found some lead ingots at the local scrap yard for $1.25 a pound. ($.75 for wheel weights there but they're mostly steel and Zinc from what I saw.)

I think the local tire shop is gonna be a better source even with the cost of propane and the few hours I put into smelting it.

I feel like the tire shop was a hell of a deal, and the scrap yard was just a good price.
So question is, since I'm relatively new at this, are those good prices?

Not bad ; our local scrap yard is pretty good and keep lead separated fairly good has sold lately for about 70 cents a pound, cheaper if you have trade which I usually do. So not

I like your casting setup. I just found another great use for my pop up cover. Thanks.

I put that up due to the "slight chance" of rain the weather guesser predicted. But it was nice casting in the shade. The table was improvised from a redneck picnic table I have in the yard and some plywood. Original plan was saw horses, but they were nowhere to be found. Lol

For some reason those boolits look gigantic. A local scrap yard is still charging me .65 cents a lb for lead and wheel weights but I have to sort the wheel weights myself. They also get brass from a local range and will let me sort through the giant bin for what I want and it's pretty cheap.

IMHO you got a good deal

    Thats what she said. Lol

They are 45cal 230gn LRN. So they are short and fat.

I wish the scrap yard near me had brass to sort through. Theyre a little too big a place to let people just sift thru stuff. Ill have to check around with the smaller places. Thats not a bad idea.

Rainout probably gonna cost me some bucks!!! Hahahhahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you did ok.

25 cents a pound for what sells for between 70 cents and a dollar a pound. Yeah you did good. Do something nice for the place you got them from. Donuts, $5 pizza, cold drinks or whatever. That is pretty favorable lead to zinc WW ratio and the price is good, you want that source to be your friend.

Actually just like mom said, a polite thank you is always appreciated. Thank you that you can eat? Even better.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

I turned it all into about 3800 45acp, and 350ish 9mm. The pic is what 3800 45s look like. Took 2 days of casting and a few trips up the stairs to move them into the gun room. Now to powder coat and size them all...
