Noticed that my LGS had a must be 21 sign for 223/5.56 and hi cap mags. Meant to ask what it was about, but forgot.

I call it as a liberal, Would let him know why face to face why my money will never be his.
I took the family to Myrtle Beach last week and made a run to wally world for groceries and fishing supplies. They had scopes and ammo but no firearms at all. Didn't notice an "age 21" sign on their wall but could have missed it.
Two days after the wally world store run I stopped in a lgs just north of the beach area. They had an "age 21" sign posted for firearms and ammo. Not sure if the sign came from a local ordinance, state code or owner's bow down to the screaming media. That sign should not matter much, his prices on everything were so high he should be closed within a year.
All Walmarts in California gave up their FFL to sell guns because they couldn't hire people that were smart enough to follow State and Federal laws. They didn't think our ten day waiting period applied to their friends. Background checks to buy a gun? I know him and he is ok. It was easier to give up the license then train the caliber of people they were hiring. Very few minimum wage workers have doctorate degrees.
Sounds like age discrimination to me .
Here in rural area the Wally wants ID for any ammo that fits a pistol. Has been that way for a long time. Way long time. So .22 rim fire fits pistol you show ID. Box of 12 gauge doesn't so no ID as long as you have a head full of gray hair.
Think it has to do with min age for pistol purchase being 21 so they card because too many clerks lack the ability to accurately tell the difference between 18 (long gun only) and 21. Frankly I can't either. Neither one looks old enough to drive when I look at them.
Sorry if it is age discrimination but older people take this stuff more seriously overall than youth, even us in our own youth would be more likely to bend the rules and drive it like we stole it than we are after a couple of decades of adult living is under our belt. Our equally foolish young friends would be more likely than our mature friends to ask us to commit a felony to "do them a favor"
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.
Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

To cure this all must show ID or be gone.
I always liked to play with the WW sales clerk when asked is this ammo for a rifle or pistol? I was 60 years old. To play I would say neither it is for my sub-machine gun you better call your supervisor.
I owned a shop at the time with an 07/SOT.
Their prices were well below what I could by from my suppliers.
Had to sop for SWMBO yesterday . Wallyworld , went by sporting goods ALL ammo was locked up . If you wanted to buy something you had to find a clerk with a key. Don't go in often , not sure when thhis started but it is new.
For several years there was only a locked empty case, and shotgun shells on a pallet in the open. Now even the 22LR space is ful, but ya gotta be carded period.

For the Walmart I go to normal had a sign up for 21 for years. What I find funny is ask if it is for handgun or rifle in some place I go to.Because some ammo can be use in both or just one. I just say rifle and they drop it.

All ammo, including shotgun! They are remodeling the store and there is rarely a clerk around.
California law states that ammo has to be behind the counter, not available for the public to touch. Some just find it easier to lock up than to have to babysit the ammo rack. Local gun stores are not supposed to have it out, either.
Here, they started the 21 for all ammo and guns after the parkland shooting. I asked the clerk about it and he said folks complained a little, but it aint slowed things down. Still a good place for 22, and shotgun shells, and cheap pistol ammo, if one doesnt load that caliber.
Some things we get from there, but mostly we shop at a local IGA that is cheap. If they sold powder or primers... id shop more.
I have seen pictures of Walmart ammo shelves that were accessible to the public (mostly empty because this was during the great ammo shortage of 2013), but I have never seen this myself. 99% of the time, it's locked up behind the gun counter where you can't really get a good look at anything. I prefer the kind you can actually walk up to, but I rarely see those around here.

Just bought a box of 150 rounds of 9mm WWB for $27 at Wally World.
I'm 49 years old and the clerk had me not only show my ID but take it out of my wallet and hand it to him. He apologized profusely and remarked that it did absolutely no good at preventing anything, but that it was their new policy.
I still remember the insanity when I bought my first CCW pistol from a WalMart in Iowa in 1994. It was a S&W 686 4". After I paid for it, I had to have a manager escort me out of the store and hand it to me outside. I asked what kept me from taking it out of the box and putting in my holster and walking back into the store with it. Silence.

Employees walking the guns out of the store is policy at a lot of places. Dick’s and Cabelas do the same thing. Well the Cabelas by me used to. Now if it’s in a box they tape it up and you can walk out w/ it. If it’s a used gun w/ no box they have to walk it out.
Sounds like something a liberal politician would think up to solve a none existent problem. Sometimes corporate lawyers have to do something to make themselves indispensable.
