Sizing M1 Cabine shells

Loading for my M1 Carbine, I noticed a noticeable bulge where the boolet is.
Using Lee 120gr, .309di.
I was wondering if anyone has tried to partial size the case, so as not to have the bulge.
Seems to chamber fine.

I load 110 gr. FMJ and SP using a carbide sizer, no bulge. Are you contemplating partially sizing loaded ammo? Probably not a good practice. If it fits your chamber I'd just use it "as is".

be careful what diameter bullet you use, as there are quite a few different .30 cal sizes.

slug your bore. and get what fits it.

I could be wrong but most carbide dies use a ring of that material to size the casing. The 30 carbine is a tapered case but I don't think the carbide ring in the sizer die tapers the case correctly.
I've found that by backing off the sizing die I can get rid of most of the 'coke bottle' bulge. Cartridges still chamber & function.

Your last sentence sums it up. If they fit and function I wouldn't worry about the appearance a great deal. My loads with the Lee C309113F using Lee carbide dies show this, too. But they shoot fine. When I load Privi .307" jsp 110gr bullets there is no bulge. They shoot fine as well.

Adjusted the LEE size die out, so the 309 boolet would hold firm, without bulging the case.
Flare with the LEE charging die, and seated the boolet with a crimp to remove the flare.
Boolet is holding firm. Tapped it with a hammer.
Chambers fine.
One slight glitch.
Had to deprime in another step. LEE punch is not long enough.
Just another step. Not a real problem.
Will try it next time at the range.

Using a Lee FL die. Like Texas by God says, as long as they chamber, fire accurately and eject the bulge is of no consequence. For plinking & paper hole punching I load a mix of about every commercial HS. Most of this brass has been loaded 8 or 10 times and trimmed to length at least once. The slight 'wasp waist' doesn't seem to cause premature case failure.

You might try a different shell holder. It might give you the clearance needed for the primers to pop out.

Mine have have looked like that for the 25 years I have been reloading 30 Carbine and still put a little hole on the near side and a big hole on the far side of a white tail doe's neck at 75 yds.

The 30 Carbine in not a straight walled case, it's a tapered case. In my experience loading with cast, it's pretty common to have a "slightly hourglass" shaped loaded round. I would not partial size, and as long as they chamber and function you should be fine.

Took it out this weekend.
Shot fine.
I did have one problem. Didn't happen all the time.
First round would not chamber.
Could be the mag.
