Need advice on M1 Garand gas tube removal.

I'm having trouble getting the gas tube off my M1. I've had it off before. But, it's had a new barrel put on and the gas tube went on a little rough. It fits really tight and I've got a new front hanguard. Problem is I can't get the gas tube off. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A rubber mallet and a 6" piece of 1" hardwood dowel is what I have used.Tight gas tube is a good thing.

Ok. I got a rubber mallet. I'll see if I can find a piece of hardwood dowel and go at it again. Thanks.
