NRA Archive - Simple Interlocking Shooting Bench Plans

Can anyone point me to the plans? I think they were originally published late 60s or early 70s in American Rifleman and were occasionally re-published. My first encounter was around 1990 in the last pages of the mag that had flashback articles (10, 25, 50 years ago).

I tried to find the bench you speak of. Couldn't get the exact one however there are many designs on the internet. Here is an interesting page that offers several different diy plans:

For my shooting bench I used 1 1/4" galvanized pipe (conduit). I cut (3) 1 1/4" pipe couplers at an 17 degree angle and welder them to a steel piece with bolt holes to go under the bench. I cut and threaded one end of each pipe the legs 32" long and angled all 3 legs out from the bench. I used 2 thicknesses of 3/4" plywood glued together for the top. I radiused all the corners on the bench top using an old 8" cook pot for the correct round radius of each square corner to be cut.Robert

My friend used some sort of pipe hangers so the pipe legs clamped to the back of the table. Nice and compact. He did use 2 layers of plywood and painted it. It's the setup I was using to shoot MOA @ 200 from the AR10 with cast. He has a tall round cooler for the seat and puts all his field stuff in the cooler for storage.

I've got a buddy that shoot PD in NM & he uses an ironing board & sits on a upside down 5 gal bucket!

BTW: His only advice, be sure to clean the mud off the legs before returning it to where your wife keeps it!

I have a few few plans saved for the knock-down benches, and while they work I don't recommend them. They seem a bit wobbly to me, I had to make mine a non take-down to stabilize it.

After looking at the cost to build one, I opted for a X-ecutor 360 Shooting Bench. Portable, about the same as the cost of building one.
It serves my purposes well. There are probably some others like it that should work too.

Thank You! But that is not what I recall. It’s been a long time ago though. The reason it stuck in my brain was that the unit became more stable once you sat on the seat.

Nice plans, but I’m looking for a field shooting bench.

I keep doodling drawings trying to get it back, but I just can’t get an image to come together.
