Had a PC Moment

I size and lube with my Lyman 450 using WL 2500+. My favorite 45 LC load is the Lyman 452424 over Promo 6.0 gr. Last week at the range I was getting nice tight groups with my Blackhawk 45 LC / 45 ACP convertible and I looked around to see a couple of folks watching. One fella said "Please go on I love to see black powder pistols shoot." There wasn't much breeze and I have to admit the smoke was pretty noticeable.....but it never bothered me before. Anyway, never paid much attention to the PC threads here but next day I started reading and watched several YT videos. I ordered 1# of Ford Dark Blue PC from Eastwood and bought a B&D Convection Toaster Oven at W-mart. Got the paint today. Used a 3# round Country Crock butter container with lid and started with maybe 5 table spoons of powder in the dish. Coated 4 batches of 100 each 452374, 452424, 401043, and 429421. Swirled/Shook for 40 sec, dumped out the 100 boolits on a 1/4" hardware cloth mesh over a big plastic bowl and wearing nitride gloves picked up the boolits and stood them up on the baking sheet covered with non-stick foil. Poured the excess powder back in the butter dish for the next batch. Baked at 400 degrees for 20 min in the pre-heated oven. Smashed one 452374 flat with a hammer with no effect on the PC; also sized a 401043 in the 450 with no harm to the PC. Did all this during a pretty good thunderstorm here this afternoon so humidity didn't seem to be a factor. All in all pretty pleased. The 452374 looked the most ragged from the coating process but I believe it turned out to be the prettiest coating. I'll get these to the range next week.

Add another satisfied customer to the growing ranks of the many PC users! There are different ways of doing it. I do it totally different, but if the results meet your needs, load ‘em and shoot ‘em.

At this rate, there will be no grease lube “brewers” left out there!!!!!!

You are right about different ways of coating a lead boolit. Seems like every video and thread shows a different method. I cherry picked what looked/sounded like it worked well and looked/sounded like it would be easy to do. Got everything I needed for less than the cost of a quality mold. The proof will be in how they shoot..... I have always been more than pleased with my sized and lubed boolits. PC will add another dimension to my hobby.

I cleaned my 77/44 barrel for the first time the other day. I've put a good 200 plus rounds through it of PC'd bullets. Just a little burnt powder residual came out.

Over the last two days I've shot my PC'd boolits in 45 LC, 45 ACP, 44 Mag, 10MM, 40 SW, .357 and 9MM. All worked as advertised. No smoke and no change in accuracy. I'm now a believer.

Man, PC is what got me into casting. I've shot commercial cast lubed bullets, but never lubed a boolit myself. When I started shooting commercial cast coated bullets, I realized how good coated cast bullets shoot. Then I learned how easy coating boolits is. That is when I

Another member here, Shaggybull brought me his oven, some powder and then GAVE me another oven to boot so I could take “the plunge”!

But I have not had time yet.

He even loaned me his tray already wrapped with non-stick and some of Smoke’s powder plus Smoke’s instruction sheet.

Well, it rained cats and dogs today on our haying opperation and if I get out riding mower put back together in case the lawn dries out maybe I can get to that PC project.

I have a 30 Herret I would really like to to flipping lead out of and I thought what a way to commemorate it’s lead venture?

To the OP: Way to go! If my first bake goes half as well, I will be very happy indeed! Job well done.
