Core dimentions?

What’s the length and diameter of the BT 30 cal cores? Are the ones for copper tubing and the 5.7 the same?

They are a quarter by one, with a pointy end.
I run them through a core swage die for final dimension.

I wanted to get a nice brass mold made for them since Ill be making them all the time. Never cared much for aluminum.

I can tell you the eleven cavity makes a heap of cores.

Brass makes nice molds, but it's heavy.

I know, I’ve been using Accurate molds for years I’ve been spoiled. Can you measure one of those cores from the 11 cavity for me?

I make core molds with cheap Harbor Freight drill bits.

I can imagine that the dimensions of a sizing die could be a trade secret. It can take an enormous amount of work to "work up" the exact dimensions like that. I doubt that there are published dimensions for ogive related specs that would consider pre-polished exact sizes and giving out those dimensions once arrived at would actually be giving away many many hours of work for free.

I asked BT about this, and he was fine with it. It seem like the only respectable thing to do to settle this question was for me to take it to him directly.

Guess I will just have to wait until I get mine. And wait again to get the mold made. Thats ok, Im used to waiting on NFA stuff anyhow.

I don't make cores to a specific dimension. I make them to a specific WEIGHT. I adjust my core swage die to give the desired result ( so that the core and jacket weigh the net desired weight.)

How about taking a 30 cal bullet of the style you want to end up with, measure it and subtract some for the process and go with that? It doesn't have to be exact. Lead squishes easily.
