    Cleaning oxidation off boolits

I have some boolits that I just found that have some minor oxidation on them. I read somewhere about using acetone to clean them up before PC the boolits put cannot find the posts even trying the search. Can anyone tell about the process if it works etc. Or what does work?

Acetone to cut grease or oil. Plain white vinegar should remove oxidation; it would work even faster used in an ultrasonic cleaner.

If its minor I try to PC them and see how a few turn out. The acetone is for removing oil for the most part. Its just me if they did not coat and I really did not want to use them lubed I would toss them back in the pot and move on without spending more time trying to clean what could be recast in less time.

A little knowedge is a dangerous thing.

Vinegar and lead oxide will make lead acetate. Lead acetate is baaaaaad stuff. It absorbs through skin so fast. If you touch that stuff for a second your blood lead levels will measurably rise, and if you agitated some crusty old bullets by hand for 5 minutes, who knows! Lead acetate is also bad for the environment, so don't go dumping it down the drain.

How bad the oxidation? If they're lubed already maybe just shoot them.

If they're not, tumbling them briefly with some old corn/walnut media should so the trick. I'd use old media you were going to get rid of anyways to cut down on oxide dust exposure.

Remember the now discontinued Outer's Foul Out? I'm still using it.

Their Lead Out solution has both lead acetate and ammonium acetate.

Common sense with vinegar / the Dip / whatever lead oxides is required but they can still be used.
