Well, we agree. It is not an ideal choice, but, if you have to buy off the shelf and do not want to pay the premium, then sometimes an off hand rifle is the most practical choice.

Agreed, I would never have got a very inexpensive used muzzleloader in LH as I did in RH this week. There is also the recreating of the experience of our ancestor lefties. They switched shoulders or shot RH guns offside. Somehow it seems a little bit wrong to build a LH Trade gun even though I hope to do just that some day.

Sorry I got a little snippy in my earlier post. For no good reason I can get a bit sensitive about purpose built lefty guns. I am now the proud owner of a Euroarms/Investarm .45 Hawken RH percussion rifle. Expecting to be popping caps within the week.

I will try out a guard, thanks for all the help.

I have one on my black powder pistol (that I've never gotten around to shooting yet). I do know that Jas Townsend sells "plain" brass ones for $10. I don't have one of theirs, but they have always been a good company to work with IMHO.

Yes I can be long winded. Yes I follow rabbit trails. Yes I admit when I am wrong. Your mileage may vary.

Keep your powder dry. Watch yer Top knot.

"Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!"

Yes there were "Short" 45 Colts! http://www.leverguns.com/articles/taylor/45_short_colt.htm
