"Freedom Checks" = Ponzi scheme?

I've heard radio ads and had at least one e-mail come on from the supposed freedom check outfit. Lots and lots of personal testimonials and hype with little to no information. Simply says 'the more you invest the more you get'. No prospectus, no information about what the 'investment' is.

Sounds like a ponzi scheme to me - remember GunPal?

Someone much better at investigating these things than me ought to go after this one.

I get a steady barrage of questions about “Freedom Checks,” where someone is promising you enormous amounts of money — potentially making you incredibly rich.

The pitches are about how the government has all this cash that they want to throw your way. But is it a scam???

What are Freedom Checks?
As I’ve explained in the past, the whole concept of Freedom Checks is just a marketing term about you getting involved in what are called MLPs, or Master Limited Partnerships, usually in oil and gas.

These are high-risk ventures that are also typically really expensive for you to be involved in. The chance you’ll make the big money is pretty unlikely. There are few people who will do well.

I’ll tell you who is doing well: The whole pitch with the Freedom Checks — the whole commercial cycle, everything — is about getting you to subscribe to a newsletter, that then tells you about MLPs and the oil and gas industry.

So now that I’ve told you what the real mystery is — it’s about doing this high-risk, high-cost investing in MLPs — you should know if those newsletters are something you really should spend money on in the first place.

"You sign up thinking you are going to at least make some money on the site - so far in 5 months i have not made a dime - then you get bombarded with new offers of which some are automatically charged to your credit card - then you have to call in and argue that you did not order that. The investment is a legitimate thing called Master Limited Partnerships. There are a number of things to know about them and you can indeed invest in them but unless your putting in a substantial amount of money your not getting checks on the order of $30,000 in the mail. Research these things carefully and know the in's and out's including the tax liabilities before investing.
