Best place to install / position thermocouple in toaster oven

I’d like to find out where some of you have positioned the thermocouple in your toaster ovens. I figure I need to try to keep it as far away from the elements as possible without having it scrape against the boolits.

I want to drill through the oven so want to try to get it right the first time. What did you do and how is it working for you?

    Thanks... Randy

Right under the tray the bullets sit on
Go now and pour yourself a hot one...

Right there where the action is happening. (my preference)
I can slide the TC out a little when moving or inserting the tray and slide it back when the tray is loaded.

Way more patience than I have standing up all those Boolits. I shake and bake mine all in a pile. Set the dial at 400. Not even sure what the temperature really is. All shoot fine with no leading.

mine is a two shelf toaster oven

TC comes in from left side and is between the shelves.

did have to remember to position it high enough to clear bullets on lower tray

I put the thermocouple under the tray for the simple reason that 37 grain bullets start to melt if the thermocouple is over the tray.
The tray absorbs a great deal more radiant heat and the thermocouple is shielded by the tray when it is on top - small bullets start to melt
A temperature probe (about $5 from Aliexpress) above the tray shows just a few degrees cooler than under the tray.
A convection oven would solve this but a $3 toaster oven from Sally Ann works just fine
Go now and pour yourself a hot one...

My little oven has 3 shelf positions (top, middle, bottom), but as I only use the middle shelf I drilled a hole in the back of the oven, just below the shelf, and bolted the probe there.
