    Usable aluminum?

I have a fair amount of this aluminum sheeting that I salvaged from work, but it's been sitting in my shed for a couple years and I've come to the realization that I'm never going to make gas checks. For the small quantity that I use, I'm way better off buying them instead.

So, instead of throwing back into the dumpster I got it out of, I thought I'd chop it into pieces that would fit in a flat-rate envelope or box and send it to whoever could use it, for just the price of postage. Before making that offer, though, I thought I'd see if it was even usable. There are two types. They both measure about .015" thick, one has a thin plastic film stuck to it, and the other has brown paper glued to it. I think they'd both come off with a heat gun, but I never messed with them enough to figure out an easy way. Is this stuff worth messing with?

Does it have any markings on it? 2024-T3 for the blue stuff?

Nothing on the bare aluminum with brown paper, but the stuff with the blue film had a manufacturer, so I looked them up and found this: http://www.itwinsulation.com/roll-jacketing

"manufactured in 3300 and 3105 alloys" and "contains a baked-on finish of highly durable, hard film acrylic or polyester paint for aesthetics, color-coding, and corrosion protection" (I think that refers to the thin white paint on it, not the blue film)

If this stuff isn't good for making gas checks just let me know. I'll just toss it in the dumpster. That's actually the easiest way to get rid of it; I just hated to see good material go to waste.

3105 is useable but dont know if the finish will affect it.

3000 series is almost pure aluminum with trace manganese

Thanks for the info. If anyone wants it just let me know. I have maybe 10 or 15 lbs. if nobody wants it by the end of next week I’ll toss it in the dumpster at work.

Sounds like a lfrb could hold it all. Could it?

Please PM me if you want to send it this way.
If it takes more than one LFRB, that is fine, too.

I think it should easily fit in a MFRB, but maybe I’m being optimistic. I’ll chop it up into MFRB sized squares on the table saw tomorrow and see how they fit. They’re thin so I think they should all fit.
