has anyone put savage bolt head on Mauser 98 bolt
not that i know of. the problem would end up being that the locking lugs must cam into the action properly. there would end up being a lot of modifications to do even after putting the savage bolt head on the mauser bolt. but there is nothing wrong with the mauser bolt head as long as it is not worn slap dab out. it is a strong design.
I don't see it working. The Savage head, being a floating design, would not play well with the Mauser claw extractor. Both systems work fine as is- no need to tamper with them until they don't.
Should be able to find other examples out there but here is one http://www.weaponsguild.com/forum/in...3686#msg363686
I'd just get a savage axis before going through that much effort. Take in account that the bolt head will cost something and you're even closer to the cost of that new axis.
