This is the first I see of this.Good to know. I have hear about it in the past. Did not know where it was from or printed. That was the days also and some time after that Sears was the place for farm and outdoors and hunters and trappers. How time had change.

The 1942 edition of American Rifleman modified this recipe: PURE Mutton tallow - Paraffin and Bees Wax or substitute beeswax with Micro crystalline wax. Been using this combo for about 10 years - does not rancid - lasts for years and can be used for both smokeless & BP reloads

Don't use leftover bacon grease...it contains salt.
But it sure does smell good when shooting.....bacon makes everything better...except lube !

interestingly the brits considered parafin and vaseline a good lube for black powder, even usinging in express rounds that had massive charges of powder.
they expected to shoot 10 rounds dirty from those rifles before the need to clean.
today we might tend to avoid that lube for bpcr due to its petrolium derivation.
just goes to show not all petrolium products are bad for black powder shooting.
pennsylvania grade oil is also believed o.k. in lubes for black.
    keep safe,
    bruce.

Ten rounds - is that all?
Went to the range in 2011 with a 38-55, Ideal 375166 bullets lubed with the mutton-paraffin & beeswax , 42gr KIK FFg. Proceeded to shoot 50 rounds at steel targets from 500m back to 200m ... the 50 rounds shot consecutively with no tubing or patching. Minor vernier adjustments needed over my normal vernier settings and was very pleased with the accuracy of the 50 rounds.
Patched the bore after the 50 rounds - 1 water cotton ball and 3 dry cotton balls

good point john, except for 1 thing.
those express rifles used massive charges, 1/3 to 1/2 the weight of the bullet.
    vastly more fouling.
and when you are after a tiger you want to know your rounds will go into the chamber.
    keep safe,
    bruce.
