I have huge pig ingots from local newspaper, is that same lead or close as the rolled up soft lead from xray room?

Coming from the local newspaper the ingots could be linotype or monotype where as the Xray lead is more than likely very close to pure lead. Lino tpe is a lead based alloy with antimony an tin to harden it so letter lasted longer when printing. It can be blended with lead to soften for bullets.
yep, its is hard. The pigs that is!
A hardness test on a piece will give an idea of what it is thru hardness ( BHN) and where it came from. Or even better is take the sample to a scrap yard with one of the testers and have it scanned to see what it is Lead antimony and tin this will allow you to determine what the base metals actually are and determine the ratios for a given hardness of alloy when mixing.
Yea, I'll take a piece dwn to cohen & green and scan it. thanks! Other friend l will mail a piece to for testing hardness.
Not likely. X-ray lead is qute soft. Any printers alloy will be quite a bit harder.
EVERY GOOD SHOOTER NEEDS TO BE A HANDLOADER.

You see them listed on Ebay occasionally.
Hi Steve,
It’s been a while since the museum asked me about this so I will have to check and see if they are interested to buy it. So in anticipation; are you willing to part with it? And if so for how much? And do you have a pic? If so send my cell: 714.397.0787

X-ray lab sheet lead = soft. Print shop lead = linotype typically is hard.Robert
