    Brass ?

I am going to make a 36 cal round ball mold
I already have one that drops a .350 ball

The new one will also if I do my part
I just want a mold that looks Old and well used to go along with my flint lock squirrel rifle

    My question is
I have a brass ingot a friend made from mostly 22 LR brass

I was planning on cutting up the ingot to make the mold sections

Any problems with a brass alloy made from 22 LR brass ?

    Thanks
    John

I'd heat up the ingot and dip in into some molten Lead at casting temp.

If the Lead doesn't let go of it as easy as a round ball should-- it won't work.

I can’t add anything of value to this thread but I’m on board to see where it goes. Cool project!

The ingot will be "cartridge brass" with a copper content about 70% - This is not quite as easy to work with as 'normal' brass with a copper content about 62%, but it will still work.
I used to get cheap brass bar from a swiss machine shop in the neighborhood. They typically ran 10' round bars and would end up with a 6" leftover from every bar.

I did a quick test and the brass seemed OK

I have to finish some other projects before I start on any new molds

    But Thanks
