Trailboss velocities H4895

Hey all its cmp games time again and I'm heading out to spit some lead out.
I'm sticking with what works in my 1903a3 for the Springfield match.

I was wondering since I don't have much time to get crony data if anyone is running
Trailboss with the 30 cal family and what are you seeing for velocities ?
I would like to try a 130 grain plain base but have no idea what kind of velocity I will see with the trailboss. I
I also have a good amount of H4895 and trying to get velocity on lighter bullets with out gas checks.

H4895 is not a good powder for 130 gr PB cast in the 30-06. Haven't used TG but Unique is what I used in the past for 1400 to 1500 fps with 125 - 130 gr PB cast.

Here's data from an old #44 Lyman book for a 131 gr cast bullet plain base.

Unique: 13 to 16 grains
4227 : 22 to 30 grains
4198 : 24 to 33 grains
3031 : 29 to 38 grains
4064 : 32 to 41 grains

Although 4895 isn't listened it often changes places with 4895. You can try your 4895 at the low end of the 32 grains listed for the 4064. If you want you can use a Dacron filler. BTW all the powders listed except for the Unique are IMR powders not Hodgdon.

The advice above regarding H4895 not being a good choice with your component combination matches my experience. TB can work well as a cast propellant, however, in my experience it can be inconsistent in bottleneck cases. I have found TB in bottleneck cases to deliver very wide extreme spreads and high standard deviation. It is fine for plinking, but not great as an accuracy component. I prefer IMR 4227 for cast loads and would suggest that you will find your sweet spot in the 23 - 24 grs range.

Yup, I agree. It's not going to blow your gun up or anything. If anything it just won't be a good load. Like Tatume said just try it.

Do not waste your time trying for accuracy at low velocity's with cast bullets.
Stick with the high energy shotgun powders, they burn fast, and do so at consistent uniform pressures.

4895, with light charges will not reach a consistent reliable peak pressure curve, ...so the powder burning will be erratic, and the result will be vertical strings on your target.

As for H4895 I have good luck with it with the 314299 in the 303 and 54r and had some decent results with 8mm. That said those are driven at 1700-1900fps.

I was looking for some trail boss velocities with the 130s. Just to get an idea of what it does. I ran 54r with trail boss and some pulled jacketed .312" 147grain they where fun but I ran out.
Local sources for powder are slim. Especially for the not so popular ones. Over 12 years of loading I have never seen 4227 on the shelf.
I'm also looking to see how the 130s
Lyman bullet mold work out in the k31
I'm looking for 50-100 yard practice.
I'm running SR target which is about a 3moa 10 ring.

If the TB does not work in your 30-06 try starting with 17 grains of 2400 and boolits 311299 or 311284.

Already down the 2400 road. It's great in the 1903a3 for 200 yards.
I'm looking for a decent 100 yard 130 grain plain base load with Trail boss because I have plenty of it. I just don't have a lot of time to go to range and do crony testing.
I do most of my load testing on my lunch break. I have 18min to set up shoot and clean up with a 15 min ride each way

On a good day with my eyes agreeing with me it's a 3moa set up. The rifle won't hold the 6 ring with factory jacket ammo
