    In search of 338 jackets

I知 currently using 408 jacketed drawn to 338 for my needs, but they are very long.

I知 looking for a 338 Jacket to make a 300gr in a VLD shape with boat tail.

I知 not having much luck finding a commercial jacket.

    What are you guys using?

What length and wall thickness do you need? Are you using enough jackets to justify making them from tubing? I would think .375 tubing could be drawn into .338 jackets easily enough, especially if you're already drawing down .408 jackets. I'd think you'd just need the .375 tubing jacket die and appropriate punches.

Actually, Just message Zbench on here... The guy makes allot of Jackets, He might just have a long 338 jacket. Or you might be able to make a deal on a new draw die and jackets.. Who knows... But i would ask him first...

I run into the same problem for my .338. I bought a bunch of RCE .408 jackets to draw down and pinch trim to .338. No one makes a .338 jacket that I am aware of.

What is considered optimum wall thickness for a 338 jacket? And length?

For a target bullet I would say somewhere around .010" to .015" thickness, and 1.750 Length.

Happens to be the same length and thickness of a 223 rem piece of brass

I have made the 338s from this 223 brass before but haven't shot any yet, thinking about it and this thread makes me want to get the 338 Edge out and send some 300 grain pills down range again!

    Swage on!

I got jackets from him and I really like them. They come in handy when I am too lazy to make my own. Only slightly more than reforming cases.
