A buddy and I just cast another 500 pounds of ingots with a propane tank pot. You'll find its a lot easier if you surround the pot with an insulated furnace. It keeps you cooler, the pot hotter, and is way more efficient with a propane burner.

I'm sorry...I should have stated....I have a 200K BTU propane burner on a pedestal for a heat supply for when I smelt. I don't think heating the pot will be a problem. The patio firepit is just for cleaning off the white epoxy paint from the tank. I should have been more specific.

I built a smelting station out of a thrown away Weber grill setup. I used a welding blanket to help stop loss of heat by wrapping the station in the welding blanket.

Just had a rip-roaring fire going in the patio firepit...Threw the Cauldron in...the paint turned chalky and the pot was glowing red...I'm sure the paint is now gone. It did take some temper out of the spring handle...but I expected that. It will still serve its purpose.

happy with my project....turned out good.
