    Lyman flint lock hammer

I just picked up a Lyman 50 cal. Flintlock made back in 1980.
The gun seem to spent it life as a wall hanger.
The bluing still down the bore
I like change the hammer for a higher sweep on the frizzen.
I know a few years back Thompson center had redesign the hammer
Anyone have any idea who will sell them

Unsure if Lyman offers different cocks for their locks but an option is to heat and stretch the cock upward a little . I did this to a Dixie lock and made a big difference in the amount of spark I got .
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

An alternative to heat and bending, is to shim the flint higher on a piece of soft lead roundball hammered flat to thickness required to achieve approx. 2/3 sweep of frizzen.

the problem with bending the c0ck or shimming the flint is that it's guaranteed to have the flint overstrike the pan, or miss it completely after scraping the hammer steel, thus directing the sparks off the pan rather than dead center.

you will want the far superior L&R RPL05 lock replacement for your GPR - it's geometry will have the c0ck strike high on the hammer steel and the flint's edge will be aimed at the pan center. rarely are the L&R's a perfect drop in fit and a little bit of inletting will be required, no big deal.

I agree that the L&R lock is the best way to go if you want to spend the $ but because of the big variation in factory stocks over time, some are not exactly minor fitting. Just something to consider before choosing an L&R replacement. BTDT.
