    Inspect that brass!

    I'm loading some 44-40s and what I thought were Rem-UMC modern "cowboy brass" were actually Balloon Head originals. This one has SS pins stuck in it!
    Only two; I loaded the other one (just to say I've done it).
    All my years and these are the first I've seen.

    I actually have quite a few old balloon head cases in 45 Colt. Might be some in 44-40 too. No, I don't use them; just keep 'em around for sentiment.

    I found one more; Peters headstamp. I remember Elmer Keith writing that the balloon heads were good for BP loads mainly.

    Yep, best for black powder. More can be fit into balloon head brass than modern brass. That allows full-power loads for the old timers.
