    Lubing Ranch Dog Bullets

I want to use the Ranch Dog 235 Boolit in my 15” Contender. The RD web page shows that he dips the boolit to get a heavy coat of LLA.

Does anyone do a simple tumble lube on these and find it sufficient? I am not looking for maximum velocity.

The 165 grain ranchdogs designed for the .30-30 is what I've used and I dipped them. I use an old musket cap tin and a coffee cup warmer, works fine and keeps the noses clean so they don't gum up the seater stem.

I did run some through a .311 sizer luber in my Lyman 450 and it put enough lube into those tumbe lube grooves to work fine as well.

I think you'd be fine just tumbling them. Try it and see.

Last that I'd read was that Ranch Dog was experimenting with Bens Liquid Lube (BLL) and liked his early results.

Yep, I use the modified BLL and love everything about it. Since the Johnson's liquid wax is extinct, the recipe is now 1 part JPW, 1 part turpentine (the real stuff, not synthetic), and 2.5-3 parts Alox. I have tumbled it and dipped it, no complaints either way. GW

The last time I knew, the new BLL formula was 40% Lundmark Liquid Floor Wax, 40% Xlox and 20% mineral spirits.

I have used 45-45-10 on some RD boolits (41 cal and 44 cal).
If I plan on loading them exclusively for levergun and don't mind if they shoot smoky, I will put the first coat on heavier before sizing, then the TL will fill in with lube, then after sizing I give them the usual lite coat to re-cover the bearing surfaces.

I've dipped them, T/L them, and T/L them with JPW. All did well.....

My favorite boolit for plinking with any 30 cal is the Ranch Dog 117 grain 32/20 boolit that casts up about .313. Since I am running it through the lube-sizer to install the gas check I lube at the same time with whatever I am using (lately White label 2800 blue). Works mighty fine.

I'd do the same with any Ranch Dog design.
