    Gas checks and coating?

I recently started using the Hi-Tek coating. I have mold for the Ranch Dog .432 bullet: it’s a gas checked tumble lube design. I would like to coat them but I don’t know how to go about doing it correctly. Do I seat the checks and then coat? Seems like I would run the risk of dislodging the checks with the shaking. Or do I fully coat and then hope it isn’t to thick to accept the check? Or maybe do a coat, then check and push-thru size and then do the second coat?

If your checks are sized properly to your boolit shank, no amound of shaking will knock them off. I use PC and my checks go on HARD with all boolits I cast. I use Hornady Cu cheks ONLY. They fit properly and some molds I have to tap them on with a hammer.

I check/pc/size for some and pc/check/size on others. That is totally up to your boolits and checks. Mine do NOT EVER fall off during the process of coating and sizing.

    Good luck.

I used to coat once then gas check and coat again, I now coat twice or three times depending on the mould then check them and size, The reason I changed to size last was so I got a better more uniform grip on the loaded round. Regards Stephen

Question, if you PC or use HiTek, why would you still GC?

^^^ rifle rds near max will have greater accuracy with a check.
Since i shoot mostly rifles with suppressors and a lot of full velocity i size, then check, then PC then final size. This assures tge gas check does not come off in my suppressor

GC & size last. Cooking can pop the GC off due to remaining acetone under the GC.
    Whatever!

Almost all of the bullets will go thru a can. This makes sense to me.

I'm with Banger, I put gas checks on, run them through sizer to put final crimp on and then PC. Never had a problem to extent it is hard to imagine there could be a problem. Best bet is to try.

I powder coat then size and install gas check last.
Most of my cast bullets are plain base the sizing before installing the home made gas check gives a flat straight area for the gas check to grip.
The home made gas checks are made from aluminum roof flashing that is .007 inch thick.
