I would also be interested in deeper pins as well.

Wasn’t into ballistic gel, but it works just fine in soaked soft paper at 50m, my favourite alloy for HP under 1150fps never disappoints, 20:1 Pb/Sn.
I initially liked the idea for longer pins, but don’t want them anymore. I understand it might give even better expansion. But try 20:1 or 16:1 without Sb.
Bullet-smart design in my opinion, I like that base of the bullet stays in neck and anything longer, heavier or with bigger nose just wouldn’t feed from magazine, chamber, or work without modifying magazines. Designer of that 300 AAC BLK bullet did a great job. I am sorry for guys with tight barrels, it works in my rifles.
Now let’s find some accurate load for that bullet and find some fox to test its effectiveness.
Very interesting, Gamsek. Thanks. I'll give 20:1 a try with ballistics gel, but it may take a week or so as I have to order the pure lead. I almost hope it doesn't work better as I have hundreds of pounds of my current alloy.
I threw some together with 10gr 1680 and they seemed to function happy suppressed but my stupid Caldwell chronograph is acting up so I can’t speed test. Man I hate that P0S. I’d love to hear about some loads that will function unsuppressed in any old rifle if anyone has any suggestions. Speed not important for those.
Even very soft soaked paper is harder on bullets then gel, i think, so your results may vary. But I remember when I got my MP 312-159 (151grs in HP); I wanted subsonic load with as much expansion and minimal fragmentation.
I started with ww, then ww/20%pure (fragmented) then half ww/half pure (still to hard, “something” was stopping expansion) then I finally used pure lead with 5%tin - it gave beautiful results.
I am not saying this is the best for effect and it kills better, it was just something that I wanted. And I wanted to know how to get there.
From photos you can see my progress from harder to softer alloy. I used that approach with 130grs MP 311-410 HP. Killed roe bucks, chamois and foxes with those two bullets, 312-159 & 311410.
I am just trying to say alloy has its effect on performance and equally of course factors:
velocity, size and shape of the cavity.
Looking forward to your results in gel. We learn every day.
Those with the lube groove version what is the nose dropping? with what alloy type etc. too please
I normally don't ask this because I like to find my own info on load data but this one has me baffled. What are people using as starting loads? the only thing I can find is 9gr of Lil Gun for the same weight bullet but Smoke4320 is talking about starting at 7 and going as low as 6.6 in Lil Gun. That looks awfully low on case fill and don't want to cause a flashover, so any help will be appreciated. I do have Trail Boss and I can make safe loads with it but I don't want to use it if I don't need it.
What are you shooting it in? What length barrel? Assuming a 16" AR, these should be a decent starting place to work down from:
10 g. IMR 4227
10.5 g. IMR 4198
10.5 g. A1680
10 g. D063-2
Blue Dot may cycle, start around 6.8 g.
If you don't need to cycle an AR, a whole new world opens up. AA#9, N120, N105 are some of my favorites.
I'm not a Lil Gun or Trail Boss fan for cast subs.

1680 and CFE black have done well for me. 1680 gave me better accuracy.

I am not crazy my mom had me tested
Theres a fine line between genius and crazy .. I'm that line
and depending on the day I might just step over that line !!!
Maybe one of you guys could drill out one of your hollow points and test it to see how much a longer pin would help with expansion.
Might give that a try tomorrow.
