22lr rim. How do they do that ?

I’ve been sitting here de-rimming 22lr basically all day and I had a question come to mind. How do they put the rim on the thing to begin with?

I think that is a question that you will have to contact a factory that makes 22lr's.to find out how they really do it. now you got me wondering to. but I would think they have a press that does it. D Crockett

There's a video on youtube by 22plinkster at CCI factory but I don't think they show how rim is formed.

The case starts out as a larger cup and then formed to rim dia lengthening as it goes. Then the body is formed down to size and last is trim to length. This is done in a progressive die the case moving thru each station and finished cases dropping out the end of the die. These presses run fast and produce a lot of cases in an hour.

at federal we had a machine that was actually called a header. basically you got the drawn tube from another machine then they run it through the header which basically uses dies to form the heads/rims. drawn tubes are finished dimension, the head was added last, well before final anneal and washing.

I just watched that YouTube video yesterday. I would love to work at that place. Would be our own best customer!
