Rare gang lead shot mold???

Hi, I'm looking for some info on a piece I found at a flea market the other day. I believe it to be a late 18th century gang bullet/lead shot mold. Its made of brass with one of its wood handles still attached. It has 41 cavities for projectiles in total, (23 for 18 caliber and 18 for 22 caliber). I've found a few similar ones online, but with maybe half the number of cavities for lead shot and with no engraving. Mine has a D * M on the one side. The other side has NEHEMIAH Abbott 1786 Dr and something else I can't quite make out.

Congrats on your nice pick up. That looks like a good find.

I can’t give you any info, but if the mods don’t move this thread you may want to repost over in the casting equipment section. I think you may get more hits over there plus a better chance of some useful information.

Good afternoon
Not knowing the date it was made makes it "fun" to start researching.
But the sizes are what the old SW Michigan muzzle loaders hunters called "swan shot". Used on geese, swans and other larger flying targets. Plus was good for dispatching fox sized critters.
These sizes was / is good for busting wing bones and lung / heart penetration.
So there is my guess as a possible usage.
