Yeah...I just purchased a 45* countersink. I'll touch up this sprue plate. RCBS had not gotten back to me...not a peep from them.

Sounds like a good idea - I'll have to try enlarging some sprue holes in a couple of molds.

OK, update - I enlarged the sprue hole to .200" on a 457-340-F Lee mold and it surely does cast better than before. I've also milled a trough between the two sprue holes with seems to help also. Great ideas from ya'll. Thanks

I cut the rough in between the cavities and then out the end of the sprue plate over the end of the blocks. I cut this trough in single cavities also. I use it to over pour the moulds allowing it to channel the excess back into the pot. I ladle pour my bullets. This gives a very consistant sprue and keeps the bullet molten longer.

I heard back from RCBS...they are sending me a new sprue plate. That's why I love RCBS.

    My reply:

I JUST ORDERED A NEW THICKER SPRUE PLATE FOR YOU AT N/C. THIS ALSO HAS THE LARGER FILLER HOLES.

    Thank you for choosing RCBS

Son of a gun! A free RCBS thicker sprue plate with larger sprue holes! Feature that. Hopefully the sprue holes will be the right diameter and the problem will be solved.

    Best regards,,

Yeah...It really should solve the issue.... Its really the only mold I have that has this problem. Not that some of my larger diameter molds couldn't benefit from a touchup though.

At least I'll have a 45* countersink to touch up my others if I find them to be a problem in the future....or just want to experiment.
