    I’m an idiot!!

Friends, turkey season is coming up and I brought out my old Winchester model 12 and Remington 870 wingmaster to pattern them. Fired a 2.75 turkey load in my Winchester not a problem. Up next my 50 year old 870, BOOM!!! I wasn’t sure what had happened, the burning shell separated from the brass and was ejected as if it were a semi auto the carrier blew into the ground and my extractor and plunger went flying into the woods. The brass remained in the chamber. Other than a small amount of powder burn on my left arm I was unscaved. Took it back inside and the problem was right in front of my eyes. I took the shotgun apart a few weeks ago and FORGOT to put the bolt lock back in the shotgun!! I could not believe my stupidity I looked around my bench and I found it. Given the situation I thank god it wasn’t any worse.

yes Sir you were lucky years back I saw a man blow up a Colt python by being stupid I will not go into all the details but the man that was shooting beside him spent a lot of time in the hospital the point being you can get hurt or hurt someone by being careless you have to be on your toes at all times when working on guns and reloading and one other thing I am glad you were not hurt any worse than you were D Crockett

I wouldn't call your self an idiot for forgetting to put that or any part back in the weapon. An idiot would have intentionally not put the part back. Unfortunate YES. An intentional act I don't think so! Kevin
Very glad all that was hurt were a few parts and not you!

A fellow at our club did the same thing with an 1100 auto. Sounded like a stick of dynamite going off. Luckily no damage to him or the gun. He replaced the block and the gun works fine.

Gentlemen, thanks for all the replies I really wasn’t going to put it in the forum but figured I would. I ordered a replacement trigger assembly and had an extra plunger and extractor my Wingmaster and I will be fine.

Lucky. I put a BENELLI Montrefeltro back together once with the extractor facing in, instead of out. The bolt came back and the case didn't eject. But it still tried to feed another round.
    I WAS LUCKY.
Just disassembled the gun turned the bolt around and missed the next two Pheasants.
