Gas Checks and Kinetic Bullet Pullers

A friend gave me some .30-06 cast bullet reloads he was given. The rounds came with no attached information pertaining to bullet weight or powder type and charge. He wants me to pull the bullets and return the primed cass to him. I get to keep the bullets. It turns out the bullet is a 180 gas check bullet. The problem I'm running into is this, about a third of the bullets are leaving the gas check in the case neck. What are my options to remove them. Is shooting them an option, or are they now junk?

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

You can either take some long needle nose pliers and flip the checks sideways and pull them out, or make a small hook on a coathanger and push it past the check (flipping the check sideways as well) and pull it back out with the check.

If you push the check back down in the case when flipping it, you can still usually hold it up and let the check fall to the shoulder and fish it out with a stiff wire hook or the needle nose. Depending on the caliber, even forceps or a skinny hemostat may fit.

This part of the finger nail clippers works great to hook the edge of them and pull them out.

Push the check in. Dump the powder and the hook and pull out the check.

Glad I saw this thread, never had to pull a GC boolit, didn't know what it might or might not do.

    Thanks for posting.

I had to pull down a bunch once. Every one left the check in the neck of the case, and were stuck fast. I ended up taking the smallest drill bit I had and carefully drilling a hole in each one, then threading an ordinary drywall screw into the hole. Then I put the case in a shell holder, raised the ram and the head of the screw stuck out the top of the press far enough for me to grab with vice grips and they pulled out easy.
