Ya got my paddles from flea bay also. Then made the tree. Is there any way to test to see if it is AR500 plate? Felt like it but is getting beat up from the 40.

Greetings....I have a home made plate rack with plates made from scrape blade steel. They have held up amazingly well over many years. M855 just makes a bright spot with a tiny dimple and that old Chinese steel jacket X39 is about the same. Of course my usual cast loads just take the paint off. It comes ~ 6" wide with one tapered edge in varying lengths, with 1/2-5/8" thickness. It is the road scraper blade edge from snowplows, it has to be torch cut, and won't drill. I don't know if it would plasma cut, no experience there. I might be able to get more if I can dig through a bunch of junk and briars. This local shop had the county contract for maintaining the snow plow blades, and they would just toss the old blades as they wore down. The stuff was too hard and heavy to use for anything else. Does anyone know what kind of steel this is likely to be, and how it might compare to AR500 in durability?

My son made some from steel he acquired somewhere, and it dimpled and finally got penetrated. Make sure your steel can take a beating.
I got a piece of 1" thick steel a few years back and had a piece of chain welded to it. Nothing that I owned could dent it, but as to what it was, I dunno. I can't remember where it is now, , but I do have three sons that like to shoot.....

I have an arntzen 2/3 ipsc that i've used a lot. Shot it with the ar some a few years back at 50 yards or less.... dimpled it slightly, but nothing at 100. We've run it for 6 or 8 years now.

Yup. Got taken by him on an 8" round. Soft mild steel. Won't respond to feedback.

I used Bullseye Metals on ebay and it seems to be AR500 as advertised and at a good price. So far I shot their plates with everything up to 308 without any issues. Couple dimples from 5.56 but i have a feeling those were due to my lovely friends shooting steel core at it.

I think it was this set of plates i bought :

I have 2 sets of gongs from Shootingtargets7.Com and have been extremely pleased.
They have lots of interesting target designs if you look around the website. There’s also a huge picture collection of individuals personal range setups.
