I was hoping to get some suggestions on a little project of mine.
I recently picked up someone else's project 1895.
It started life as a 2004 Guide Gun
The previous owner slapped on a barrel from an 1895CB. He chopped about 2" off to remove the front sight dovetail and mount the guide gun front sight ramp instead. He also added some other brand semi buckhorn rear sight which was either smaller to begin with or he filed the rear sight dovetail a bit too much allowing for a little light under it. Either way I was hoping for something a little nicer looking in the back. Maybe a Marbles.
Well I decided I wanted to make a trapped out of it. I chopped her to 16.5"
Now I need to choose a new front and new rear sight.

I've been digging through looking for something cool. I was thinking a Marbles rear semi buckhorn and maybe a skinner brass blade front. Though I did just see a really cool pedersoli brass flip up sight which goes from a globe with a post and bead to a plain old blade. Super cool
Is anyone running one of these on their lever gun?

I guess I really need to do the math and figure out what sight height i'm going to need.

suggestions and pictures are much appreciated!

Some people just need to never touch a hack saw or file....ever....I hope you can make it right.

I have a sight as you describe on my 1893 Marlin. Proper name for that sight escapes me at the moment. The sight is ok for the range but I surely would not have it on a hunting gun. Blasted thing will not be in the proper position when you need it.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

I stand corrected.... I just removed the rear sight and the dovetail looks pretty much factory. I imagine the new rear sight he installed was just of poor quality and didn't fit the dovetail well. It seems the old Marlin rear sight base I had fit ok. I just need a new folding leaf and elevator for it now. The old sight broke on one side of the leaf and has since been lost.

I just looked at the front sight on my 1894 which I really like. It's kind of like this product but without the grooves cut in it.
I really like the tapered shape and the bead on top. It lends itself to a couple different sight pictures in the standard Marlin rear sight.
I know I can hold the top of the bead at the top of the rear sight and plink the 200 yard steel with 38 wadcutters all day. Or I can take a fine bead, dropping the bead all the way into the bottom of the rear sight and do some detail work right up close at 25 yards with the same load.

    Ouch for that CB barrel.
I'd go with a Williams peep rear and a bead front.

Trust me I battled with the though of chopping it. If it wasn’t for the fact that had had chopped it down to remove the front sight dovetail and the magazine hanger dovetail.
I figured at that point collector value was lost and it was in need of some love.

I’m not a fan of William peeps. I have a skinner I could try out.
Right now I’m kind of torn between more of a Cowboy traditional look vs a modern peep rear and fiber optic front.
    Both would look cool

Sights are a very personal thing. With my eyes, on a gun like that, a large diameter peep sight is what I would try if I had to go with iron sights. If it were mine, it would wear a low power scope

Good job getting tge gun back into service!

    How about a nice Leupold VX1. 1-4X ? That’s what I have on my Marlin 30AS 356 Win 16.5” rebore.
