    Melting PC boolits question

I'm sure this has already been covered but I didn't find any posts to to answer my question.
How should I go about remelting powder coated boolits, will the PC coloring coat and or ruin my cast iron melting pot?
Should I melt and flux as I would dirty lead?
If any PC color makes into my boolit casting pot will it be ruined?

    Thanks in advance.

Just toss them back in the pot next time you cast just like you would for a greased bullet. Dont breathe the burning plastic though. It burns off quickly.

when I size mine I usually have a couple get crossways and get mashed (I size with an upside down press and a ramp for the bullets to slide down to the sizing die)

I put these in the pot for the next casting session. No problems no matter if they start off in a cold pot or are dropped (placed carefully) in the melt.

Yes, treat them like dirty lead, they smelt easily. I don't like to put anything but clean lead in my casting pots. I save all my "rejects" and when I have a fair amount I smelt them and cast ingots.

I let the pot come up to temp then carefully ease them into the melt. The bullets melt quickly leaving PC floating at the top. I just scoop the PC and dump it. Nothing to it.

The PC just floats to the top. Once it is cured, it cannot be re-liquified so it will not “mess up your pot”! I have melted down a full 20# pot of coated slugs and just skimmed off the black garbage on the surface.

    Treat them as dirty Pb.

Smelt pot, plenty of sawdust, the PC adheres to the saw dust and will not stick to the pot. This is the last of 57 pounds of range scrap off my range that all was PC'd.

Another thanks for the replies, I had been worried about the PC contaminating the lead, all good to know.

Make sure that you have good ventilation. Vapors are harmful over the long run.
