Not wanting to drill and a tap a older model Savage 99, Could I just use a rear base where it is drilled and tapped for a receiver sight and use a Holographic sight on this base?

If you are talking the tang sight holes on the tang of the receiver, then should be doable but
the sight will be close to the eye

Has anyone tried this ? How did it work out ?
I mounted a reflex sight using a dovetail adapter on my G20 and have put a bunch of full power Underwood ammo through it with no issues.
Is there a rear base that works on the holes designed for the tang sight of a older 99 savage. Was thinking spacing might be different then if the holes were drilled later by a smith for scope bases.
Maybe someone could measure the hole spacing on the holes for tang sight and let me know.
Before someone asks I do not yet have the Savage 99 in my procession to do so myself.
