Got to brag, Type 30 Arisaka carbine score

Happy day at my house today. Gun auction in a small town about 80 miles from home. The auction company had about 4 pictures listed for about 90 guns. Pretty typical roached out Winchester 22 pumps, cheap 22 bolt actions and break open shotguns. They had listed a type 38 6.5 jap rifle. From the picture I could see it was a hook safety type 30 carbine, but did not know how bad or good it was. To make a long story short it came home with me. 1 of about 45,000 made between 1898 and 1905. Bright bore and bright bluing with a few rust spots. Mum is partially ground but considering this is the only one I have seen or laid my hands on in 50 years of collecting I am not complaining

Congratulations. That was a nice find and a excellent score too. How about some pics when you get a chance?

I too would like to see a few pictures. I upload my pictures to Imgur.com and use that to post. I never could figure out how to resize them and upload them to the forum directly.

Congrats on a fine job of purchasing.
Put me down for wanting to see a picture.
I still regret passing up a type 38 Carbine in Nashville some years ago, because it had a walnut (two piece, but walnut) stock and appeared to be unfired.

Is this Type 30 for rack or are you going to be shooting it?

Might shoot it. Waiting for another member to text pictures to to post. Bore is bright and crisp. I took some pics next to a battle scarred 99 that my dad brought back for size comparison.

My great uncle had one and gave it to a friend of mine for yard work. We thought nothing of sporterizing surplus rifles back then but he didn't finish it. He passed away some years back; I should ask his father if it's still laying around. (Fingers crossed).
Arisakas are neat. I even like the safety on the 38s- easily disengaged; a great decorative gas shield.
I'll post them when you send them, Blanket.

    Nice!

Not sure why, but I've had the itch to get an Arisaka for a while now. I don't want a serious collector, just a shooter, but I would like it original.

Oh yeah! I also never saw such a critter and would like to have one. But I have also not seen a bright and shiny 6.5 bore period. I'd take anything that had that! Both my 6.5 Arisaka's have the standard "sewer pipe" bore. And they shoot about how the bore looks -- been using them for "wall hangers".
