    7.62x39 Cast loads?

    I got a mini Howa in 7.62 x39 and was thinking that it would be a nice cast bullet gun. Somewhat like a 30-30 in that I could go from 30 cat sneeze to 30-30 velocity. I was thinking Unique or Red Dot but am open to suggestions. Any one currently loading this one.

    I shoot both the Lee 155 and the 311466 in a Handi rifle. Accuracy is good but not bench rest with a load of Imr 4895. I started at 26 gr and went up from there. I may have played with the 3118 and low velocity but moved on.

    Jim, I reload the 7.62 x 39mm, but for a Type 56 SKS (spike bayonet). I use a C.E. Harris designed 160gr. CB cast from a NOE mold and get excellent accuracy with Unique, but Harris' recommended 10gr. load produced difficult extraction. 9.5gr. is better, at least in my SKS. The attached pic shows the NOE CB on the right and a Lee 175gr. 8mm. Mau. CB radically resized to .3165" to fit the bore of said SKS. Interestingly enough, it is slightly more accurate than the NOE CB. Btw, the target pic was of a Unique + NOE CB @ 50yd. from the as issued SKS.

    I used an old lee gc mould with about 8.5 grains of unique in an sks. Doesnt cycle but I was hitting steel plates at 100 yards. Super fun day of shooting with zero recoil

    More load data out there for that then you can shake a stick at.

    For top end loads you may find the information and test results I posted in these 2 threads interesting;

    For my bottom end load I use the Lee TL314-90-SWC over 2.7 gr of bullseye for this result;

    Attachment 218423

    Lots of loads in between such as 27 gr H4895 under a Lee C312-155-1R or the RD C312-150-WFN at 1875 fps. 311316 over 9 gr Unique makes an excellent midrange vermin load at 1675 fps.

    Thanks that was what I was looking for...my 10 different loading manuals all all older and I only have about 3 loads for the 7.62 and nothing in my Pet Loads.

    I shoot the Lee C312-155-2R and 22.7 grains of R7 in my Mini 30. I have taken whitetails, groundhogs and numerous rocks and dirtpiles with it. It runs 1950 fps in my 16" barrel.
