    TC Contender in 22 WMR

    Group
I got a 22 WMR for mu TC. I bought a box of 30gr CCI, 40gr CCI and some 50 gr Federal ammo to try. Anybody have this set up so I don't a lot of money on finding one that works well?

Every barrel is it's own animal. And what is kind a caveat too, is that each lot number of ammo is too. You need to experiment on what it likes. If you find a particular load that your T/C barrel loves, get as much as you can of the same lot # if possible. ALL rimfires are this way, trust me on this one. On the bright side, most T/C barrels are tack drivers. You are sure to find a good load now that 22 Mag has become more plentiful.

The ordinary WW HP works well in my .22 WMR.
The Federal 50 grain ammo is the worst I have ever used. It is lucky to group into 4" at 100 yards.

I had one for about twenty years and got rid of it along with the frame about three years ago. Besides that, I've owned a dozen other .22wmr rifles and handguns over the years....one of my favorite calibers. That all being said, I've never found a 30g pill that shot well out of any of the guns I owned...not a one. The CCI 40g have always shot well out of all of them. I tried some 50g a couple of years ago and they shot even better, but.....they don't expand as well on woodchucks, fox, yotes, etc. I believe it's simply because they don't go fast enough. They still work, you just have to place your shot a bit better. With woodchucks about fifty percent get down the hole compared to about less than ten percent with the 40 grain bullets. My last .22mag rifle would shoot about a legitmate 1moa at 100yds for five shots. The red dot in the pic is 7/8" for reference.

Mine don't like the HV 30 gr stuff either. CCI JHP 40 gr @ 1875 fps or Win JHP 40 gr are my best performers.

I've done what ShooterAZ suggests and been happy with rim fire ammo .

I can tell you to stay away from anything marked Armscorp , some of the worse stuff I've seen .

Another vote for WW 40 jhp, second for the same in CCI.

The 30 gr. works but at shorter distance due to larger groups ..... so what’s the point?

..and another vote for the Winchester 40 grain JHP...

Have a 10" bull barrel with a 5X Burris target scope on it...it will clover leaf that ammo at 50 yards if the shooter does their part...
