Hey, thanks for the addition info on why not to use lead wrapping. I'm using leather now, cause that's what I had. I'd been reading about lead wrap and it seemed to be "highly recommended" by a couple of folks, but not near all. Now I know the reason why not. Leather seems to be working just fine, so no reason to use lead. Again, sure glad this info was added or I would have wrapped the flint with lead.

See, I'm STILL learning this stuff - and hope I never stop learning. Helps keep the old brain active and a LOT more fun than crossword puzzles.

I use leather for most of my locks except the military ones (Tower, Harpers Ferry).

The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list.

Sometimes we read an answer to a question and ......."jeez I am dumb - thats a no brainer " - easier to ask than think - is a sign of modern life - or the decay of modern society - or just lazy .......
Thank you for your answer John Taylor

Just switched mine to leather - we'll see if I have quicker lock time. Not that I'm complaining about the lock time now.
