I got my new Lee pot a few days ago and cast up some ingots no problem. I noticed a warning about not melting pewter in the pot(amongst other metals) and I was wondering why not? I thought pewter was mostly tin which is desirable to boo lit casters.

I was curious as to the exact wording of that warning, so I searched out Lee's instructions.

It's interesting that pewter is included, all other listed metals have a melt temp that the Lee melter would probably not successfully achieve. The only issue with pewter would be the valve would be more prone to leaking since the specific gravity is lower than lead.please note: These metals can not be
melted in our melters
• GOLD • SILVER • ZINC • COPPER
• PEWTER • ALUMINUM
PS, I have melted/poured/cast with pewter in a Lee pot, and had no problems.

Anyone else think it might be due to Tin's quality to flow easily? Might be that they think it might cause the pot to drip? Hahaha!
Thanks JonB,
Good to know you have done it successfully .
Now to hunt for some pewter chatskies.
my WAG:
could mean they are talking about pure pewter. Mixed with lead not a problem
