Made it out to the range this morning, loaded up 5 shots of each test setting, so there are 80 points of data here.
For IDPA or USPSA - Making 125 PF is a piece of cake! I only needed 791 fps and exceeded that by a long margin.
Smooth side Solid (158gr) cast with WW's to an OAL of 1.11" using Titegroup and 3 coats of HiTek, sized to .357
Powder Charge _________ 4" Pistol velocity ___________________ 20" Rifle Velocity
3.2gr TG..........................Avg 886 fps, StD 10.5..........................Avg 1074 fps StD 17.3
3.3gr TG..........................Avg 894 fps, StD 11.3..........................Avg 1080 fps, StD 13.6
3.4gr TG..........................Avg 905 fps, StD 6.7............................Ave 1076 fps, StD 15
3.5gr TG..........................Avg 914 fps, StD 6.9............................Ave 1115 fps, StD 9.5
Smooth side HP (149gr) cast with WW's to an OAL of 1.11" using Titegroup and 3 coats of HiTek, sized to .357
Powder Charge _________ 4" Pistol Velocity ___________________ 20" Rifle Velocity
3.2gr TG..........................Avg 865 fps, StD 18.6..........................Avg 1072 fps StD 12.7
3.3gr TG..........................Avg 913 fps, StD 17.9..........................Avg 1100 fps, StD 8.2
3.4gr TG..........................Avg 922 fps, StD 10.7..........................Ave 1116 fps, StD 5.9
3.5gr TG..........................Avg 947 fps, StD 21.7..........................Ave 1135 fps, StD 19.3
My goals here were:
1) find a powder charge that runs well in pistol and rifle
2) get to the lowest PF acceptable
3) start looking for reliability runs
Outcome- 3.4gr worked very well in the pistol and the Standard Deviation in both the solid and HP were best.
