Noob wants to incr jacketed . 429/430” bullets to . 433”. Can it be with single stage

    Total noob for swaging here.

Curious to learn what it takes to increase a factory jacketed bullet (“44 caliber” which are really .429-.430”) to 432” -.433”?

Looking for a increased diameter bullet for a Ballard-rifled Marlin 1894 44 mag, which has .4315” groove diameter for improved accuracy.

What is needed, on the low dollar side, to do this?

Can I use a single stage O-frame cast iron reloading press, to generate enough
pressure? I have a Lyman O frame, cast-iron blackened version of the “ orange crush”(?) press.

If this press is a possible platform, what would I need for dies? Lube. Top punch? Ball park price?

Or, find a steel cylinder with . 432” I.d, drop a factory .429” jacketed bullet in it with a fitted top punch ( base plug need too?), and give it a few hammer thumps? If so, where can something like that be purchased?

Thanks in advance. Not looking to high volume numbers. Just for me, and mostly as an experiment to play with my Marlin’s .432” bore and jacketed bullets.

Can be done with one simple die on any decent press. Just need the die and base punch. Only take one stroke of the press.

You would need an "S" press to make it work, but Corbin makes what they call a bullet fixing die. I didn't see anything like that in the R line of hobbiest dies, but the idea is to straighten or bump up pulled bullets. I would think this would work great for your application. http://www.swagedies.com/mm5/merchan...=bullet-fixers

I would think if the bullets are already perfect, and for about the same cost you could have him make a synchronized point form die of the correct diameter. The synchronized point form is different than a regular point form in that it uses a heavy duty probe to match the bullet ogive to push it out rather than a wire in a hole. This allows you to get a lot more pressure in the die and bumping a bullet up .003 is no big deal. You can see it here: http://www.swagedies.com/mm5/merchan...ry_Code=SSWAGE

In both cases, you are going to need one of his presses which is a super handy thing to have. Not an inexpensive endeavor, but one you won't regret.

    Hope this helps.
